The 5 Step Process
for Commissioning Custom Art Glass

1) CONSULTATION
A Free consultation is available at the Studio with one of the Artists. The initial consultation consists of talking with you and learning what your style and aesthetic requirements are. We will show you designs, photos, glass samples and metal swatches so you can understand some of the decisions that will need to be made (but not at this point). Price range estimate: Typically during our initial visit, once we have an idea of the size of the work, level of detail, and any special requirements, we provide you with an estimated price range. Fabrication time is a large portion of the overall cost of creating stained glass artwork for you. This time varies considerably with each design, and will be firmly estimated once the preliminary design is completed. Although size is only a small factor in determining actual cost, Prices range from $150-$400/sq. ft. Simpler - fewer pieces/larger details, works tend to be on the lower end of this scale. Complex - more pieces/small details, works tend to be on the higher end. Next comes the DESIGN Phase...

2) DESIGN
Our specialty is creating an original work of glass art. We do not work from patterns in our original works. We create an original, unique and truly custom work of art just for you. We pride ourselves on the talents of our Artists, Sandy & Kathy Seff. In the Design Phase for an Original Work, a Design Fee will be taken, appx $85.00. At this point it would be best to bring in paint swatches, tiles, carpet swatches, cabinet door, photos of where art is to be incorporated, or anything else that you want the design to complement in your interior, be it a home or a place of business. If these cannot be left with the Studio, photos will be taken for reference.
If no further preliminary sketches are required the Final Design will then be created. The Artists, Sandy Seff and Kathy Seff, will draw up your design full size and to scale. This usually takes about 1-2 weeks depending on studio workload. A second appointment will be made with you. At this appointment the design, selection of art glasses, and metal finishes for your custom art glass will be decided. We will guide you in these decisions as much or as little as you want. At the presentation of the Final Design an accurate Price Quote will be given for completion of glass artwork. When you approve final design and Colorful Visions receives a downpayment of 50% of the final price quoted, we then move ahead to execute your custom glass artwork. That commences the FABRICATION Phase...

3) FABRICATION
We guarantee that we build your stained glass piece ourselves. The Artists that you met and discussed the project with. It is made in the Studio you visited, by our hands, minds and hearts. Nothing is outsourced. This is how we maintain the highest quality and integrity of the design. You can find cheap stained glass from China on the internet or in discount stores and craft fairs. Take a closer look at the workmanship. Reducing cost by cutting corners, paying slave wages to disadvantaged workers, or sending out to low-bidders aren't ways to ensure quality. We put quality first, and build to last. A true family heirloom! Your custom piece is signed by Sandy Seff and/or Kathy Seff depending on if both or only one worked on the execution of the piece.
Upon our completion of your art glass, you will receive a call for pick up. At this point, this is where we Change the Way You See Light!

4) INSTALLATION
Our glass art is designed to be installed on the interior side of an existing window or door. In fact, many local building codes do not allow stained glass to replace exterior glass. Depending on the location and use of the stained glass application, it may be retained with glazier's points, quarter-round wood moldings, cabinet clips, silicone or even hung independently using chain. Colorful Visions Art Glass Studio is not licensed and insured for home renovations. By law, that is what is required to install a fabricated stained glass window. We do however, give recommendations as to how your piece can be installed. And we can be on location when your contractor or you yourself install the piece for guidance. After installation is complete, Enjoy Your Art and let it Change the Way You See Light! As for Cleaning and Upkeep...

5) MAINTENANCE
Your piece was cleaned and polished before leaving our Studio. For local clients we offer a yearly cleaning and polishing free of charge. Call the Studio (631) 472-0203, if you would like to make an appointment.

Cleaning Art Glass Yourself
When you feel it necessary to clean your glass art here is what we at Colorful Visions recommend:

English Lead Fabrication
Make a mixture of Rubbing Alcohol (1 part) and Distilled Water (4 parts). Spray mixture on a dry cloth, not directly onto piece. Wipe glass clean and dry. You can also use a NON-Ammonia based window cleaner. (Ammonia cleans glass but corrodes metal so it is a big No NO for Stained Glass)

Tiffany Copper Fabrication
You can use 1."Kwik-Clean" (Available in our Caring for Glass Art category), 2. A NON-Ammonia based window cleaner or 3. A mixture of Rubbing Alcohol (1 part) and Distilled Water (4 parts). Spray either liquid mixture directly onto piece, wipe glass clean and dry. We also recommend polishing your Stained Glass Art with a Finishing Compound made specifically for Stained Glass every 6 months (more in very humid living areas). Click "All Glass Categories" the scroll to "Caring for Glass Art" to purchase this Polishing Compound or Kwik-Clean. The polishing helps to prevent against oxidation of metals in your work.
