It was at a Mondrian retrospective at the Moma that Kathy drew her inspiration for the "My Broadway" sculptures. Here she saw Mondrian's 1941 version of "New York City" that remained unfinished on his easel upon his death. "you need to see this work in person to get the sense of my inspiration" explains Kathy. Piles of red, blue and yellow painted paper tape were on the canvas in layer after layer so that he could rearrange colors to experiment with composition. "It was a sculpture rather than a painting on canvas." she says, "when I started working with hot glass and kiln forming, Mondrian's effect on my work would take a whole other dimension, a third one!"
